Q: Do you make these kimono yourself? A: No, these are original, authentic silk garments hand sewn in Japan between the 1920s and 1960s. The only things I do to them is have them cleaned and I repair what can be repaired. I take apart kimono too damaged to be sold whole and make them into scarves, pillows, and lamps. Q: How can I use these garments? A: There are lots of ways to use the kimono and haori. The shorter haori are perfect as jackets. They can be dressed up for evening wear with a simple dress or matching slacks and simple top. They also make beautiful bed jackets for older or convalescing women. The longer kimono make dramatic wall hangings when hung from a simple rod or bamboo pole on a blank wall. They also are lovely as robes for lounging or stunning evening coats or ceremonial robes. Q: How do I care for my garment? A: I recommend dry cleaning at a reputable establishment. The scarves can be hand washed in cool water using a good quality shampoo and rinsed well. Hang to dry. If pressing is needed, the lowest steam setting or silk setting should be enough to remove wrinkles. The older the fabric the more fragile the silk, so handle with care please. Q: How did you get into this business? A: As long as I can remember, I have been a fabricoholic. I majored in fashion design in college and was a designer and custom dressmaker for years. A friend who knew how much I loved fine fabrics took me to a store that sold pieces from old kimono. I bought some thinking I would make clothes from them. When I received my first shipment of whole kimono, I was astounded at their beauty and workmanship and realized there was no way I could cut them up. So, my business was born.
Q: What is your Return Policy? A: We accept items returned within 2 weeks of date received and will refund the cost of the product minus shipping.
